MARLBOROUGH SAUVIGNON BLANC IN TOP 50

Mud House Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2016 has won Gold and been placed in the top 50 wines at the 2016 New World Wine Awards.
A second Gold was awarded to the 2014 Mud House Single Vineyard ‘The Mound’ Waipara Valley Riesling.

With more than 1,300 entries this year, it is one of the largest and most influential wine show sin New Zealand.

“It was a great harvest in 2016, with an extended warm autumn allowing excellent development of fruit ripeness and flavours. The Sauvignon Blanc expresses these qualities brilliantly,” said Mud House winemaker Cleighten Cornelius.

The judging panel at the awards aligned the 2016 Mud House Sauvignon Blanc with qualities rich, dense and concentrated flavours boasting lifted varietal, sweet gooseberry and apples, leading to a crisp long dry finish.

Cornelius said although the harvest of 2014 was a more challenging one due to rain, the Riesling shone through, to produce a wine with bright citrus notes, giving way to flavours of crunchy nectarine and honeysuckle.

“The juicy lemonade acidity of this wine delivers harmony and balance to the palate with subtle underlying textural minerality.”

The Mud House 2015 Mud House Central Otago Pinot Noir was awarded a silver medal.
