Last month’s Coromandel Annual Tourism Awards were especially memorable for Donna and Chris Brook, owners of Sunlover Retreat, Tairua.
The Brooks were recognised with an Excellence in Service award to celebrate their tourism contribution to the Coromandel region.
After launching their luxury B&B in Tairua three years ago, the Brooks have consistently striven to offer every guest the “experience of staying with locals”.
Such a committed effort launched the small B&B into TripAdvisor’s top ten New Zealand Accommodation, B&B and Inn Category. Sunlover also received a Traveller’s Choice Award earlier this year.
The secret to the Brook’s success, according to Donna, is specialising in little details to create significant memories. The fact that people come from all over the world to visit the Coromandel compels her and husband Chris to “go the extra mile”.
With a recent Bed and Breakfast Association Survey showing that travellers spend approximately $60 million staying in B&Bs last financial year, B&Bs like Sunlover are surely well-placed to continue making the most out of New Zealand’s growing international tourism boom.
