SOUTH ISLAND SKI FIELDS OPEN EARLY

New Zealand ski fields are opening for the earliest time in their history this year as heavy snow has coated the South Island.

Coronet Peak Skifield is opening for a day on Saturday, June 2, two weeks before the season officially opens on June 16.

Mount Hutt Skifield, which is also run by NZ Ski, is due to open on June 8, with the Remarkables Skifield opening the day after on June 9.

Cardrona Alpine Resort previously announced it would have the earliest opening in its history – this weekend - but with only some facilities operating and just for a two-day period.
