RACIAL ABUSE AT SHERATON HOTEL

A US Sheraton hotel is doubling up on its sensitivity training following an incident involving racial abuse at its premises.

A guest staying at Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown attending the nearby Japanese American Citizens League national convention reported finding a racial slur written on top of a pamphlet.

The racially abusive term was written by a staff member who claimed he was unaware the term was considered racially abusive.

In response, the hotel has promised to retrain its staff for sensitivity, diversity and inclusion, and in a Facebook post addressing the issue said “We are continuing to investigate this matter and deeply regret that one of our guests experienced this issue. Based on the results of our investigation we will take the appropriate actions, including refreshing our sensitivity/diversity/inclusion training, to ensure this doesn’t happen again."
