Martinborough TOP 10 Holiday Park has been awarded Dark Sky Friendly status.

South Wairarapa is aiming to become an international dark sky reserve, meaning the area cuts out all light pollution and has distinguished clear starry nights, perfect for scientific, natural, educational, cultural and public enjoyment.

The holiday park signed up to the Martinborough Dark Sky Society’s Dark Sky Friendly Charter and will manage its light levels to protect the night sky. The site will shield and replace all external lighting, making the night sky more enjoyable for local astronomers and guests.

Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, in New Zealand was the first Dark Sky Reserve in the world, designated the status in 2012.
