PLANS FOR NEW HOTEL AT AUCKLAND AIRPORT

NEW HOTEL AT AUCKLAND AIRPORT

Designed by Dalman Architects in Christchurch, a new multimillion-dollar hotel is set to be built at Auckland International Airport on the old site of Qantas headquarters. The construction of the three-star, 144-room hotel is estimated to cost between approximately $30-40 million. The Auckland Airport is currently undergoing discussions within the hospitality industry to determine a brand to run the hotel. Plans are for construction to begin before 2019, with the hotel expected to open in late 2020.

The site for the new hotel is located off George Bolt Memorial Drive near a Countdown supermarket and will complement the other ibis and Novotel hotels in the area.

“It will be a three-star property. We already have a two-star and the four-star [ibis and Novotel]. We’re just gone out to market looking for a partner brand to run the hotel,” said an airport spokesman.

Although no official details have been released yet, it is understood there are also plans for a fourth hotel to be built near the airport – expected to hold a five-star rating.
