Only one submission against Queenstown development

A proposed hotel near the Queenstown CBD has only received one submission opposing the development by the Queenstown Lakes District Council's closing date for submissions.

Brecon Street Partnership Ltd’s application for land use consent included plans for 12 commercial tenancies, with 393 guest rooms in four buildings.

Last year the company had applied to build a development with 468 rooms with buildings up to nine storeys high.

The only opposition to the new proposal – which now only reaches up to seven storeys tall – came from Queenstown Childcare Centre who operates the preschool and nursery directly across the road.

The organisation is concerned about the potential effects the hotel will have on traffic, parking, vibrations and noise effects.

The Council's decision for the project is still pending.
