Meliá Hotels International's performance and commitment to ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) issues have been rewarded with its certification as a Socially Responsible Company in Mexico. Awarded by the Mexican Centre for Philanthropy and the Alliance for Corporate Social Responsibility, the SRC certification is highly prestigious in Mexico and Latin America due to its comprehensive and evidence-based assessment procedure.

SRC certification acknowledges the efforts made by companies in Mexico to voluntarily and publicly assume a duty to responsible management, aspire for continued improvement and integrate responsible management as a core element of their corporate culture and business strategy. Melia Hotels International is the second most sustainable hotel company worldwide and number one in Europe according to the Corporate Sustainability Assessment made by S&P Global 2022. The company continues to consolidate its position as a responsible company globally in all its destinations.

This certification furthers Meliá's strategic priority to integrate ESG measures into its business model. Currently, the hospitality giant is executing a responsible management business model adapted to the different locations in which it operates to achieve its 2030 vision: to become a company recognised for its commitment to responsibility and sustainability.

The four areas assessed during the certification process cover all the key areas for businesses committed to ESG:

  1. Ethics and corporate governance
  2. Quality of life in the company
  3. Connection and commitment to the community
  4. Preservation of the natural environment

After a meticulous evaluation by a committee of professionals, the rating earned by Meliá Hotels International in each of the four areas was classified as outstanding. Thus, making the hotel company one of the leading companies in regard to corporate responsibility in Mexico.

In addition to the global vision of the sustainability strategy, Meliá Hotels International encourages the development of activities designed to impact each of the destinations where it operates positively. The hotel company also boasts Top Employer certification, with a strong performance in areas such as Training, Commitment, Ethics & Integrity, Corporate Values and Change Management. In Mexico, the company is also participating in projects of local interest, such as Welcome to Life - a project developed to protect sea turtles with a holistic approach which involves raising awareness and training in aspects of biodiversity, in alliance with several NGOs in the destination.
