Victoria's coastal town of Sorrento in Melbourne has welcomed a glamorous new era with the debut of InterContinental Sorrento Mornington Peninsula – continuing IHG Hotels & Resorts' legacy of opening in the world's most sought-after destinations.

Part of IHG Hotels & Resorts Luxury & Lifestyle Collection, the newly-opened property is the luxurious new centrepiece of 'The Continental', a famed 1875 landmark site that has undergone a stunning transformation into a reimagined place of restaurants, bars, and wellness centre.

Designed by Woods Bagot, the hotel's 108 guestrooms and suites harmoniously blend heritage and modernity, reinterpreting the locale's previous heydays in the Victorian and Deco eras into a sophisticated coastal retreat for our times.

Guests can choose from an array of rooms or one-and-two-bedroom suites, either within the beautifully restored 1875 limestone building or a newly built wing with private outdoor terraces. Later this year, the hotel will unveil a selection of penthouses. Guests booking premium rooms and above will be treated to a complimentary in-room bar, including a seasonal lineup of locally distilled spirits, wine or boutique brews to toast the start of their stay.

InterContinental Sorrento Mornington Peninsula features an exclusive, guest-only Mediterranean pool deck overlooking the sparkling waters of Sorrento and Port Phillip Bay. Guests can indulge in a careful selection of drinks and food under cabanas or perfectly placed poolside chaises. A 24-hour Fitness Centre will also be available.

Adding dimension to the play between old and new, nostalgia and contemporary, the property features an extensive art collection. A roll call of Australian artists' works on show throughout the public spaces and guestrooms range from stylised fashion photography, hedonistic portraits, delicate interpretations of local fauna and a series of reimagined 19th and 20th Century photographs of Mornington Peninsula beach parties.

Fabled for generations as a pleasure-seeking playground, the much-anticipated Sorrento landmark's reinvention whisks hotel guests into a dazzling new array of dining. Headlined by Audrey's - acclaimed Melbourne chef Scott Pickett's seafood led elevated-diner - guests can choose from two restaurants. This includes a beer garden, front bar, and speakeasy venue to enjoy breakfast, high tea, lunch, dinner and late-night entertainment during their stay. The meticulously restored Grand Ballroom provides the perfect majestic setting for private events.

Slated to open later in 2022, Aurora Spa & Bathhouse will offer a further sanctuary for revival and recharging with a range of therapeutic and sensory experiences, spa rituals and ancient bathing traditions. The expansive thermal bathhouse and wellness centre will be supported by their acclaimed botanically active skincare range ASPAR and wellbeing expertise of founder Lyndall Mitchell.
