Mt Ruapehu's Tūroa and Whakapapa ski field operators are at risk of liquidation after being given insufficient government support to stay open until the 2023 winter season.
Due to three years of Covid-19 lockdowns, border closures and a poor ski season, Ruapehu Alpine Lifts are currently 45 million dollars in debt.
Last month, the organisation went into voluntary administration. Administrators found that they needed nine million dollars to survive until the next ski season opened.
However, they were given a short-term four million relief package from the Government and ANZ, which is projected to run out in December.
Ruapehu Alpine Lift's 14,500 life pass holders are currently being surveyed to see if they would financially support a new entity to operate the ski fields.
A decision has yet to be made by the Government over whether to liquidate or bail out the company.
