Accor announced its first Mercure deal in Kathmandu, Nepal, and is expected to open a new property in 2026. In development by The Metropolitan Hotel Private Limited, the new hotel will be set in a valley surrounded by the Himalayas, featuring dining and exercise facilities and an indoor swimming pool.

The project further strengthens Accor’s position in India and South Asia, adding it to its collection of 56 properties across a selection of brands: Raffles, Fairmont, Sofitel, Pullman, Grand Mercure, Novotel, Mercure, ibis, and ibis Styles.

Puneet Dhawan, Senior Vice President of Operations at Accor India and South Asia, emphasised his excitement about this expansion, eager to bring Mercure’s high-quality services to Nepal.

“We are sure that Mercure Kathmandu will immerse guests by bringing Nepal’s culture. We look forward to working with The Metropolitan Hotel Private Limited to craft an authentic personality for Mercure Kathmandu that our guests will love.”

VP of Development at Accor India and South Asia, Aniruddh Kumar, stated that expanding their legacy is an exciting opportunity going into 2023.

“Charmed by its [Nepal’s] grandeur, beauty, and heritage, we are sure the hotel will reflect spirality and harmony in a picturesque natural setting,” Kumar said. “We will continue to expand the legacy of our different brands by providing our guests with unique and enriching experiences.”

The number of visitors visiting the country is constantly increasing, as explained by Desh Bandhu Basnet, Chairman of The Metropolitan Hotel Private Limited, and their team is determined to provide the very best accommodation options.

“We are excited to enter this partnership with Accor and pleased to introduce the world-class Mercur brand to Nepal with the signing of Mercure Kathmandu. We look forward to working with Accor towards the success of this property,” said Basnet.

This singing is the beginning of big plans for Accor as they strive to open new properties across India in 2023-24.
