Airbnb have launched Airbnb Rooms, a new take on the original Airbnb model, alongside 50 new features and upgrades as part of the most extensive set of improvements in Airbnb history.
Airbnb began as an alternative accommodation option that offered guests a way to stay in a room in someone else’s home. The original idea of sharing a home came about due to two unique benefits, a lower price point and a way to experience the city like a local. Airbnb is aware that the most important factor of staying in someone else’s house is feeling comfortable staying with the Host.
“With Airbnb Rooms, we’re getting back to the idea that started it all - back to our founding ethos of sharing,” said Brian Chesky, Airbnb co-founder and CEO. “Airbnb Rooms are often more affordable than hotels, and they’re the most authentic way to experience a city. This is the soul of Airbnb.”
From today, every Airbnb Room features a Host Passport, to help guests get to know their Host before booking a stay. Host Passports include a larger photo of the host and extra details Hosts may choose to share, including but not limited to where they went to school, what they do for work, and a fun fact about themselves. New privacy features mean all Airbnb Rooms will now clearly indicate if they have a lock and whether the bathroom is private or shared.
Airbnb is expecting over 300 million guest arrivals globally this year and is preparing by implementing a range of new features and upgrades based on information taken from both guest and host feedback.
“Millions of people have given us feedback on how to improve Airbnb. We’ve listened,” said Chesky. “Today, we’re introducing the most extensive set of updates ever. Our design-driven approach means we’re always making Airbnb better, and our over 50 new features and upgrades are just the beginning. We will never stop improving Airbnb.”
The new features and updates for guests include transparent check out instructions, improved maps, and instant rebooking credit if a Host cancels within 30 days of arrival.
