Quest Mount Maunganui in Full Swing Ahead of Opening

Quest Apartment Hotels has given a sneak peek into its latest hotel, with bookings made ‘almost unseen’ ahead of opening. Quest Mount Maunganui has been a $20 million investment on Rata Street and Maunganui Road. The location was previously the Breakers Cafe and Bar for more than ten years.

The hotel has been blessed by Ngāi Te Rangi ahead of its official grand opening.

The development was on the brink of starting when New Zealand entered lockdown in 2020. Since then, the hotel, consisting of 40 apartments and ground floor retail space, was given the go-ahead in November 2021.

Quest Apartment Hotels New Zealand group chief operating officer Adrian Turner said the project had survived various challenges surrounding the construction and accommodation industries.

“It has been five years in the making, but we have come out the other side, and we have a building that we can be extremely proud of,” said Turner.

The Wallace Development Company bought the property, where all existing buildings initially built in the 1960s and 1970s were demolished. Co-owners of the Quest Mount Maunganui franchise, Avelien and Tere Strickland, said it was great to see several corporate guests already booked rooms.

The official opening of the hotel is on June 12th, 2023.
