InterContinental Auckland has partnered with internationally renowned chef, Gareth Stewart, as part of plans for the hotel to adopt a new culinary focus ahead of its opening in late 2023.
Stewart has been tasked with creating a new luxury restaurant ambience for the hotel, including the hotel’s signature restaurant, club lounge, and in-room dining experiences. He is also expected to make regular appearances in the kitchen. Stewart will also head up creating restaurant concepts, names, and menus.
Having previously been the executive chef of Foley Hospitality’s 11 restaurants, previously known as Nourish Group, Stewart was alsoa judge on the television series ‘My Kitchen Rules New Zealand’. She said that he is excited to be able to put his own stamp on the hotel.
“I’m beyond thrilled to be collaborating with the world’s largest international luxury hotel brand and make my mark on InterContinental Auckland,” he said.
Stewart began his career in hotels, having worked at the Queen's Hotel in Portsmouth, and said that it has been a great experience to come full circle.
Working with a blank canvas and building a restaurant and kitchen team from the ground up is an exciting challenge. I can’t wait to welcome and delight diners when the doors open to InterContinental Auckland later this year.”
Stewart is also actively searching for an Executive Chef and kitchen team for the new restaurants at the hotel.
InterContinental Auckland general manager, Ryan South, said that it was a thrill to have Stewart join the team.
“Gareth’s passion for delicious food, his expertise working in prestigious hotel kitchens and leading some of Auckland’s most lauded restaurants encompasses all the ingredients we were looking for in a partner chef to help us launch InterContinental Auckland. We look forward to revealing more of what Gareth is cooking up to complement our luxury accommodation offering.”
