Accor to Expand Japanese Presence

Accor will expand its Japanese presence, with the addition of the Daiwa Resorts Portfolio. The new collection will add a further 23 properties to Accor’s portfolio, and over 6,000 rooms. The Daiwa properties will be rebranded into Grand Mecure and Mecure hotels, in collaboration with Accor’s strategic partnership with Ebisu Resort LLC.

Chief Executive Officer for Accor’s premium, midscale, and economy division in Asia, Garth Simmons, said that the company was excited to be adding the new lineup to its portfolio in Japan, especially as the desire to connect with nature has seen a surge in demand amongst travellers of recent times.

“This agreement will offer our loyal guests just that, with their location in charming coastal towns, proximity to nature and authentic local experiences. Popular destinations such as Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto will always remain in high demand, however if you want to immerse yourself in the real authentic culture of a country, sometimes you need to escape the big cities and head off the beaten path,” said Simmons.

Accor plans to open the new properties by the second quarter of 2024.

The former Daiwa properties are located across Japan, offering an array of scenic locations with guest rooms, wellness facilities, and restaurants. The deal will enable the first Grand Mecure branded hotels to debut in Japan, focussed on multi-sensory experiences. Daiwa Resort Co., Ltd President and CEO, Koji Mayanagi, said that by rebranding the company, the company will be able to provide guests with new memories.

“In the future, we promise that guests will be able to enjoy a comfortable stay with activities that incorporate local cuisine, local attractions and relaxing hot springs while making the most of the unique characteristics of each hotel. We would like to work together with the local community more than ever before and share the appeal of each region not only within Japan but also around the world,” said Mayanagi.

The renovations will begin in late 2023.
