Major Revamp at Gold Coast Airport

Gold Coast Airport will soon boast an airport bar and lounge, expanded food and beverage offerings, new retail stores including luxury goods, and a children’s play area as part of an ongoing $500 million transformation.

The program of works builds on the airport’s $260 million Southern Terminal Expansion which was officially opened one year ago this month.

More than 20 new stores are being delivered, including Heinemann’s opened domestic store offering international luxury brands, which is only the second store like it in Australia.

The first phase of work is focused on our retail offering and includes new food and beverage outlets – Merlo Coffee Roasters, Artisan Kitchen& Bakery, Two Tigers Sushi, Paradox Coffee Roasters & Bar, Schnitz (the first in an Australian airport) and Social Espresso.

Early next year, the second phase of work will commence, focusing on the refurbishment of the departure lounge more broadly, including new wayfinding, flight information boards, seating, and the installation of a children’s play area.

Chief Operating Officer Marion Charlton said the relocation of international services provided additional space and an opportunity to expand the offering within the domestic terminal.

“These upgrades will provide customers with more choice while waiting for their flight and will help to bring the look and feel of our domestic terminal more in line with our Southern Terminal Expansion,” Charlton said.

“We want locals to be proud of their airport, and these refurbishment works will deliver a modernised airport terminal with more retail, new food and beverage offerings and an expanded departure lounge,” she said.

“At the moment, there is a lot of work happening in the terminal; passengers will notice some stores are closed while they are refitted, and we appreciate their patience while we deliver these upgrades to help bring our customers an improved airport experience,” she said.

“To have retail partners like Heinemann expanding their footprint shows the confidence they have in our airport, and that reflects the confidence that we have in this region which is why we continue to invest in improving our airport infrastructure.”
