Horizon by SkyCity has celebrated its first anniversary, becoming a highly valued asset to the Auckland entertainment precinct.

Since opening one year ago, Horizon by SkyCity has quickly established itself as an award-winning 5-star hotel.

The hotel earned significant recognition, including accolades at the prestigious New Zealand Architecture Awards 2025 and the Holmes Group Tourism and Leisure Property Award at the Property NZ Awards 2025 and is rated the number-five hotel on TripAdvisor in Auckland.

“We’ve had an incredible first year, and we couldn’t be prouder of what our team have achieved,” said Callum Mallett, SkyCity Chief Operating Officer. “We didn’t just open a hotel; we created a destination, combining business, leisure, and hospitality in ways that are unique to Auckland.”

Positioned as the closest hotel to the upcoming New Zealand International Convention Centre (NZICC), set to open in February 2026, Horizon by SkyCity continues to offer world-class service to both international and domestic visitors.

At the heart of the hotel lies the award-winning restaurant The Grill, renowned for its outstanding culinary offerings. Famous for its signature Beef Wellington, The Grill has served over 1,600 of these mouth-watering dishes and has hosted 1,200 celebrations, including 13 marriage proposals.

“It’s a very special place and our guests visit for the beautiful views and luxurious accommodations, as well as the exceptional dining experiences that define Horizon by SkyCity,” said Mallett.

As Horizon by SkyCity looks toward the future, its first anniversary marks just the beginning.

“With the NZICC opening around the corner, we are looking forward to welcoming the world to the Horizon by SkyCity hotel,” Mallett added.

“We’re not here to blend in, we’re here to set a new standard in hospitality.”

The anniversary has coincided with SkyCity launching carded play in its casinos.

“Carded Play gives us the tools to better support our customers. We can make earlier interventions where needed, and ensure gaming remains a safe and enjoyable experience,” said Mallett.

Under the Carded Play system, every player will need a SHOW by SkyCity card for all machine and table gaming. Customers can continue to use cash, QUICK Pay or Tito tickets when playing, and all customers will need a legal form of photo ID to sign up. This can be done online or at any New Zealand SkyCity Casino.

“We’re proud to lead the industry in building a safer, more sustainable future for gaming in Aotearoa New Zealand.”
