Emma Soutter started working in London after finishing Hotel school, then travelled to Australia and took secondments in North America for the Olympics.
After her studies in Hotel Management finished, Emma Soutter worked in Five-star Luxury hotels before her first General Manager role, which then led to a Cluster, then Area and Regional Manager role, overseeing multiple properties across differing brands and geographies.
Most recently, the highlight of her career has been working on the hotel opening of The EVE Hotel Sydney for more than two years, and seeing how the current hotel team have bought the vision to life.
The most important advice she has received in her career was to never assume anything.
“I am so grateful for some incredible leaders that I have worked with over my career. So many of the lessons learnt are still relevant,” said Soutter.
“Dagmar Woodwood was the first female GM of a five-star hotel in London, when I started in Front Office. She was an amazing leader who trusted in her team and gave the confidence to bring your true potential.”
Since joining the industry, she said, it has changed, especially in the areas of technology and new platforms.
In the future, Soutter said she is really excited to see how the industry can continue to leverage platforms and technology to remove the transactional administration and allow a focus on human interaction.
“Someone once told me improvement is continuous, every day I work on being better than the previous day,” she said.
“I love working with teams, meeting new people every day, making someone's day by bringing a smile to their face and creating memories.”
