The Chancellor on Hobson has completed a full soft refurbishment of all of its 65 guest rooms to meet an increasing visitor demand.
The Central Auckland apartment hotel began the refurbishment in late 2025 to touch every guest room in the property. The revamp included new flooring, beds, furniture, smart TVs, curtains, mirrors, artwork, and a fresh coat of paint throughout.
The result was a noticeably improved guest experience within The Chancellor on Hobson’s well-appointed studio rooms, suites, and one and two-bedroom apartments, all with private balconies.
Hotel Grand Chancellor, Area General Manager Steve Martin said the investment reflects its confidence in Auckland’s tourism outlook.
“We wanted The Chancellor on Hobson to be ready for the increasing visitor demand, with a product that matches one of the best locations in the city,” said Martin.

Positioned on the corner of Hobson and Fanshawe in the heart of Auckland CBD, The Chancellor on Hobson sits within easy walking distance of the Viaduct waterfront, Sky Tower, Britomart and Auckland Ferry Terminal, making it a convenient option for both short-stay leisure guests and extended-stay corporate travellers.
The hotel's facilities including; an indoor heated pool, hot tub, sauna, fitness centre, and on-site parking, featured alongside the refreshed rooms. Room categories ranged from 27-square-metre studio rooms conveniently equipped with kitchenette, dishwashers and microwaves through to one and two-bedroom suites with separate living areas, full kitchen and laundry facilities, and either city or harbour views.
For guests driving into the city, The Chancellor on Hobson’s Park & Stay package offered a practical addition to the newly refreshed rooms with secure underground parking and complimentary access to the hotel’s gym, spa, indoor heated pool, and sauna.
The Chancellor on Hobson was part of the wider Hotel Grand Chancellor network, complementing the group’s other Auckland CBD property, the new-build 4.5-star Hotel Grand Chancellor Auckland on Wellesley St.
