SUDIMA APPOINTS CHRISTCHURCH MANAGER

Sudima Hotels and Resorts has appointed Maree Welgus as hotel manager for the in-development Sudima Christchurch City. The new high-end hotel is due to open in early 2019 and will be home to 86 self-contained rooms including six suites and two penthouses. The hotel complex will feature fully accessible rooms, an on-site restaurant, day spa, and adjoining corporate offices.

Welgus, currently executive assistant manager for Sudima Lake Rotorua, is an experienced industry professional, having held management positions for various top-end hotels and spas internationally. She has worked on several developments throughout her career and is looking forward to managing the Sudima Christchurch City development from the driver’s seat.

“This role will see me wearing several hats, and I couldn’t be happier,” she said. “It will enable me to draw from my previous management experience across hotels and spas and allow me to flex my skills across corporate office management and oversee our on-site quality restaurant. It’s an exciting time for both myself and the Sudima brand as we embark on this exciting development.”

Sudesh Jhunjhnuwala, CEO and founder of Sudima Hotels and Resorts said of Welgus’ appointment, “I am delighted with Maree’s appointment, she brings a wealth of skills and experience required to manage this highly anticipated Christchurch City hotel. This will be our second hotel in the region and it’s great to be part of the thriving redevelopment of Christchurch’s CBD area. The hotel will host our first day spa and will raise the bar for high-end and quality accommodation options for the city.”

In addition to Welgus’ proven management track record, she has been influential in Sudima’s accessibility achievements (each hotel is rated between Bronze and Gold for accessibility by Be. Accessible) and is part of Be. Accessible’s Be. Leadership alumni, mentoring young achievers with access needs into employment.
