Australia Zoo has beat out competition from Kuranda’s Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and the Qantas Founders Museum in Longreach to be named Queensland’s best major tourist attraction at the Queensland Tourism Awards.

“The Irwin name still resonates so strongly, both in the US and here as well,” said Queensland Tourism Industry Council, CEO, Daniel Gschwind.

“There’s no better brand ambassador than the Irwin family and you really do see people get off the plane in Brisbane and the first thing they ask is ‘which way to Australia Zoo?’”

Across other categories, Capricorn Caves won gold in the Tourist Attractions category, Red Cat Adventures won the Major Tour and Transport Operators and Adventure Tourism categories.

In the accommodation categories, RACV Royal Pines Resort won in Luxury Accommodation, Empire Apartment Hotel Rockhampton won in Deluxe Accommodation and Grand Hotel and Apartments Townsville won the Standard Accommodation award.
