Napier has rolled out the welcome mat with all the extras to guests and their dogs for New Zealand’s first full service dog-friendly hotel.

Scenic Hotel Te Pania general manager, Kerryann Gibbs, describes the hotel’s “woofers welcome” move as “progressive in delivering a total holiday experience for guests and their furry friends.”

“The move gives comfort and peace of mind to those who are reluctant to take a holiday because of having to leave their beloved pets as well as for those whose preferred choice of travelling companion is their much-loved dog,” Gibbs said.

With its waterfront location, Scenic Hotel Te Pania is ideally suited to walking along the promenade or in one of the region’s dog-friendly parks. Gibbs points to this as being a health benefit of holidaying with a dog, encouraging people to get out and about.

“For many people their daily exercise revolves around walking the dog.”

Gibbs said the new initiative reflects the family focus of the hotel, as well as stress-busting benefits of being with a pet, so it is only fitting that dogs be included too. A dog-friendly room carries a nominal surcharge of $25 to cover incidentals such as bedding and cleaning and at this stage must be booked directly with the hotel and subject to limited availability.
