WINEGROWERS RELEASE SUSTAINABILITY REPORT

A report released by New Zealand Winegrowers has given an insight into sustainability practices within the wine industry. The report, the first of its kind, found that ninety-eight per cent of New Zealand wineries are certified by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand and around seven per cent operate under certified organic programmes.

The industry was praised by the Sustainability Report for undertaking actions such as enhancing biodiversity, reducing and recycling products, optimising water and energy use and reducing the use of agrichemicals.

“Wine producers from north to south are committed to protecting the unique places that make New Zealand’s famous wines,” said New Zealand Winegrowers CEO Philip Gregan. “The report illustrates participation in Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand, and highlights the direct benefits of the programme.”
