NEW YORK’S ROOSEVELT ISLAND TO GET FIRST HOTEL

Roosevelt Island, a small strip of land in New York’s East River, has played host to asylums and smallpox centres over its long history, but will soon have its first ever hotel. The hotel, launched by Graduate Hotels, will sit at the entrance of the new Cornell Tech campus, which is due to open in September. The hotel itself will open in 2019.

The 196 room hotel will feature an on-site restaurant, roof terrace and unique views of the iconic NYC skyline from floor-to-ceiling windows. The sleek and modern design will be managed by Snøhetta, a Norwegian firm responsible for the Oslo Opera House and the reconstruction of Times Square.
