NAUTILUS ESTATE

Nautilus Estate is a family-run business that has been producing a range of wines since 1985.

What is your company background, how did you start the business? Who are the owners?

"The owner is fifth generation vigneron Robert Hill Smith from the Barossa, Australia. He started Nautilus Estate in 1985 despite misgivings from the more traditional minded Australian winemakers around him, and it has remained in the same family ownership ever since."

What is the current product range and variants and how do these products stand out in the market?

"Nautilus Cuvee, Vintage Rose, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Gruner Veltliner, Albarino, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir. These wines are all minimal intervention, vegan-friendly wines. We make a limited release wine called The Paper Nautilus Sauvignon Blanc which is made in a more European style. We have also released our first single vineyard Pinot Noirs this year."

Has there been any recent company news?

"The recent launch of Albarino has proved a great success for our business – winning the Air NZ other varieties trophy last year and selling out quickly."

What are the plans for the business moving forward, is there any expansion on the horizon?

"We are continuing to refine our offering by identifying continual improvements to our winegrowing and winemaking, but we are pretty comfortable with our current size."

Where are your products currently available to buy, and are you looking at or wanting to expand your availability? If so, where would you like to see the product situated?

"Restaurants and Independent wine merchants throughout NZ and the rest of the world."
