Akaroa, Tauranga and Wellington have been dubbed 'top-destinations' at the Cruisers’ Choice Destination Awards.
The awards annually highlight the world’s most popular cruise destinations in 18 regions worldwide. Akaroa, Tauranga and Wellington were amongst the winners named in the ‘Top Rated Australia and New Zealand Cruise Destinations’ category.
In 2017, Akaroa had 142,357 cruise visitors, 150,994 visited Tauranga and 158,323 in Wellington.
New Zealand Cruise Association CEO Kevin O’Sullivan was excited to receive the award, linking it to the growing amount of cruise ships arriving in New Zealand.
“This award recognises what a wonderful destination New Zealand is for cruise tourism, and why we are seeing a rise in the number of calls to our ports.”
Cruisers’ Choice Destination Awards are chosen using first-hand ratings and reviews from travellers posted to the Cruise Critic website over the past year.
