Concerns over proposed Queenstown development

Two nearby hotels of a proposed Queenstown hotel development claim the excessive noise and traffic problems created by its construction will negatively affect business.

The developer, Well Smart Investment Holding, had lodged resource consents last year to build the seven-storey, 162-room hotel.

Event Hotels, which owns QT Queenstown and Rydges Lakeland Resort, stated in its submission that Well Smart’s application was not thorough enough and lacked information regarding the scale and effect of the construction.

“It is not clear if cranes will be required for the hotel construction, nor if the submitter's properties will be affected by their location and use."

A resource consent hearing will be held in Queenstown on December 4 to 5, deciding the fate of the property’s approval.
