Five-storey Napier hotel set back

A five-storey boutique hotel development in Napier has been put on hold due to concerns about the building’s height.

The 16-metre building is expected to contain 47 rooms and three apartments.

On 30 November 2018 Napier City Council received the resource consent application, but because the planned building infringes on several District Plan requirements it was referred to the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council for approval.

The building’s plans exceeded Napier Inner City Commercial Zone’s 10-metre height limit, with the top portion of the structure reaching as high as 16.11 metres.

The Hawke’s Bay Regional Council’s review is expected within the next two weeks.
