International guest nights in short-term commercial accommodation dropped significantly this February.
According to Stats NZ, international guest nights in February 2019 fell 3.2 percent when compared to the same month in 2018.
“Fewer international guest nights in commercial accommodation this February coincided with fewer international visitors arriving in the month, particularly from China,” said accommodation and construction statistics manager Melissa McKenzie.
Guest nights from locals increased, however, helping to offset the decrease. Despite this, international guest nights still outnumbered domestic guest nights.
Overall guest nights fell by 0.4 percent.
