Post office transformed into boutique hotel

The Wellington Company has opened The Post Hotel in Porirua, aiming to take advantage of the city’s predicted increase in visitors.

“We see real potential in the Porirua City Centre and are excited to play our part,” said Ian Cassels, director, The Wellington Company.

The Post Hotel is housed in the old NZ Post building, which has been refurbished into a three-storey 36-room boutique apartment hotel.

The hotel is being run by Danielle Joyce and Danielle Warren who are keen to operate in Porirua.

“We are both extremely proud to join the Porirua community and have enjoyed getting to know the local businesses," said Joyce and Warren.

Mayor Mike Tana performed the ceremonial ribbon cutting for the opening.

“We’re thrilled to have our first hotel in many years developed to a very high standard, offering a variety of accommodation requirements. It’s another indicator of how our city is maturing. With amazing growth projected over the next three years, the hotel’s arrival is timely,” said Mayor Tana.

“Visitors numbers to Porirua are set to rise significantly with our established attractions like Pataka and Te Rauparaha Arena alongside other growth activities happening across our city.”

The hotel formally opens Friday 31 May.
