MAJOR NEW QUEENSTOWN HOTEL COMPLEX APPROVED

A new $200 million Queenstown hotel complex has been approved.

The new complex will be located on Brecon Street, near the Queenstown CBD. It is to be built on land currently occupied by an outdoor mini golf course, besides the Queenstown cemetery.

The complex will house 393 guest rooms in four buildings, as well as 12 ground-floor commercial tenancies.

Nine submissions were received on the plan, one against and eight in favour. None of the submitters wished to be heard, so the decision was made not to have a public hearing.

The initial proposition to use the land was made by developer Graham Wilkinson's company two-and-a-half years ago. Last year the company applied for consent to build a larger, 468-room development, but reduced the size of the project after their initial plan was not approved.
