A new 226-room hotel has opened in the heart of Courtenay Place, downtown Wellington.
The nine-storey Oaks Wellington Hotel was opened in a ribbon ceremony hosted by Oaks Hotels chief operating officer Craig Hooley, Oaks Wellington Hotel's general manager Jamie O'Donnell, and the Associate Minister of Tourism and Member for Tāmaki Makaurau Peeni Henare.
Also in attendance were representatives from WellingtonNZ Tourism, Tourism New Zealand, TIA, RTONZ, and Hospitality New Zealand.
“We are thrilled to mark our spot in Wellington, New Zealand, a city which continues to soar in population and tourism growth," said Hooley. "Our newest property not only introduces the Oaks brand to the region, but it will also support the local community by creating 80 permanent jobs.”
The $33.5 million hotel is housed within one of the city's prime locations, on the site of the former Ford vehicle assembly plant constructed in 1922.
