Hilton Takes Things Downtown in New Orleans

Aimbridge Hospitality has announced the grand opening of the new 176-room Canopy by Hilton New Orleans Downtown. The 14-story hotel is conveniently located in the heart of the city near the iconic French Quarter and features a unique Creole and Cantonese inspired restaurant influenced by local flavour.

The hotel is a historic renovation of The Oil and Gas Building erected in 1959. The building was officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014 for its incorporation of glass, steel and abstract geometry in a skyscraper and has now been refurbished into a hotel, restaurant and bar.

Canopy New Orleans Downtown showcases sophisticated comfort and authentically local experience that guests have come to know and love from the Canopy by Hilton brand. The building’s revamped curtainwall provides for maximum daylight and panoramic views of the cityscape from all guestrooms. The hotel also offers amenities such as artisanal quality breakfast created from locally sourced ingredients, a transfer lounge for guests, and an extensive meeting space linked to a private patio.

The team at the hotel have been trained to help guests embrace the best of New Orleans and can organise a city tour or suggest a local hidden gem to explore. A complimentary Canopy Bike will also be available to accompany guests as they discover what the city has to offer.

Paying homage to the hotel’s location in what used to be the Chinatown district in New Orleans, the hotel’s onsite restaurant, Ginger Roux, will serve a fusion of Creole and Cantonese inspired cuisine. Led by Chef Jonathan Hostetler, it showcases a diverse mix of dishes, such as crawfish boil fried rice, boudin lumpia, gumbo dumplings, General Tso’s alligator, and crawfish etouffee shumai and more. Ginger Roux also features a selection of wine in addition to a unique lineup of cocktails drawing cultural influences from around the local area.

Canopy New Orleans Downtown is also home to its new signature bar, The Herbalist, which offers cocktails, gourmet coffee and espresso drinks, exotic teas, fresh juice, hot-out-of-the-oven pastries, Creole treats and more for breakfast.

The new hotel will be joining Hilton Honours, the loyalty program for Hilton’s portfolio of 18 distinct hotel brands. Members who book directly will have the luxury of indulging in instant benefits, including a flexible payment slider that enables them to choose nearly any combination of loyalty points and money to book a stay, exclusive discounts and free Wi-Fi.
