Accor, in partnership with Shanghai Xinguang Technology Development Group, has announced the development of Sofitel Shanghai South, a stunning 293-key luxury urban resort slated to open in 2025.

Sofitel Shanghai South is poised to become a landmark in the new development of Zhuanghang Town in the Fengxian District - one of the city's most historically fascinating and fastest-growing areas, with a large-scale revitalisation plan underway. The new hotel will feature the Sofitel brand's signature modern French style, artfully blended with rich Shanghainese traditional culture in an environmentally sensitive approach to development.

A new destination of endless growth and possibilities, Zhuanghang Town is developing areas and infrastructure to attract new generations of investors, tourists, and residents whilst preserving its history, heritage, and culture.

Sofitel Shanghai South boasts a prime location along the banks of the Huangpu River, encircled by a complete ecosystem of verdant woods and abundant orchards representing the new Zhuanghang Town. Rich with natural resources and pristine air, the area is an attractive destination for Shanghai residents and travellers to the Yangtze River Delta region alike. About 40 kilometres from downtown and 30 kilometres from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport, the hotel will be just one hour from Shanghai Pudong International Airport.

A low-rise hotel amid an expansive resort setting, the new Sofitel Shanghai South will be surrounded by the wild luxury of Zhuanghang's conservation forest and wafting scents of woods and wildflowers. A rooftop urban farm concept will merge the natural woodlands with the hotel's produce garden and feature a rooftop bar, restaurant, and event space for special moments. Sofitel Shanghai South guests can soak up stunning views of the Huangpu River from the hotel's sunlit atrium corridors, guestroom windows, and infinity perched above the metasequoia and camphor trees in the forest below.

Sustainability and respect for the environment are key values for both Accor and Shanghai Xinguang Technology Development Group, which drive the design and development of Sofitel Shanghai South. The hotel's design theme is inspired by the sika deer in the surrounding conservation forest, and 《小雅·鹿鸣》 - The Deer Call - taken from The Book of Songs, the first poetry collection in ancient China. The architectural vision of the hotel is helmed by AND Studio, an international firm renowned for integrating natural ecology and cultural significance into its designs. Building construction of the property also follows green building standards and certification - focusing on energy efficiency, green materials, and technologically advanced systems.

Sofitel Shanghai South will be part of a 40,000-square-metre commercial complex. The urban luxury resort will feature 293 guestrooms with private balconies overlooking the forest and river. Two ballrooms of 1,500 square metres and 700 square metres are generously sized for events, celebrations or business occasions. The hotel will also feature signature restaurants and bars, a lobby lounge, an executive lounge, a fitness centre, a spa and a pool. Meanwhile, green outdoor space at the ground level offers a sprawling garden, perfect for outdoor weddings, small concerts and multi-function events.
