IHG Hotels & Resorts has entered a Multi-Development-Agreement (MDA) with Solutions4Hotels GmbH (S4H) to develop ten hotels flagged under the Holiday Inn brand family with approximately 800 rooms in Germany. The first two signings within this MDA are Holiday Inn Express Leipzig South and Holiday Inn Express Hamburg South.

The agreement is part of an extensive mixed-used development project across ten locations, including the development of premium service stations and restaurants. Each destination will feature a futuristic service station, including electric vehicle charging, a petrol station with sustainable fuel solutions, a hotel, and high-quality F&B outlets. The building sites are conveniently located along Germany's main motorways, all near large cities.

A favourite amongst owners, IHG's Holiday Inn brand family was picked as the ideal hotel concept for this nationwide project.

Holiday Inn Express Leipzig South – an example of sustainable construction

As part of a modern and future-proof development concept, Holiday Inn Express Leipzig South showcase a commitment to sustainability, which is already evident in construction plans. All rooms will feature a wooden modular build, while the entire property runs on geothermal heating. In addition, solar panels that feed back into the hotel's circuit system will be used for energy production.

Featuring 79 rooms, the hotel is expected to open towards the end of 2023. It will include a modern breakfast area with complimentary breakfast, 24-hour reception, free WiFi, and a marketplace with snacks, drinks and other non-food items. A communal co-working space will also be available to guests within the building.

Signed in 2020, the Holiday Inn Express Hamburg South marks IHG's first development with new Franchise partner S4H. The hotel will feature the same facilities and amenities – complimentary breakfast, free WIFI, 24-hour reception, marketplace – as its new sister hotel in Leipzig. Already in construction, the 80-room hotel is expected to open by summer 2023.

"This is an exciting project for us, especially considering the sustainability aspect. At IHG Hotels & Resorts, we are committed to helping shape the future of responsible travel together with those who stay, work and partner with us," said (Mrs) Willemijn Geels, VP of Development Europe at IHG Hotels & Resorts. "This commitment as part of our ten-year responsible business plan, Journey to Tomorrow, also extends to how we build new hotels. The Holiday Inn Express Leipzig South is a great example of sustainable construction. We know that S4H and their development partner share this passion, and we look forward to working together on the many new projects yet to come."
