A hotel on the North Shore is on the verge of collapse following Auckland’s floods. Located on the edge of a significant slip in Baywater, Ocean Breeze Hotel has lost half of its carpark into the water.
The hotel has continued to be occupied, however some rooms have been evacuated due to advice from the council. An Auckland Council spokesperson confirmed that the building has been yellowed-stickered, indicating the building as sustaining “moderate damage.”
The slip occurred on council property, though there is a 50-metre distance between the slip and the building.
Aucklanders experienced more flooding and slips Tuesday night after heavy rain began hitting the region on Friday – recorded as Auckland’s wettest day. Watercare said the central city received 100 mm of water overnight on Tuesday, with up to 60 mm of rain falling in just two hours over parts of the city.
