Top Laughs for Top Floor Dining

On the top floor of Four Points by Sheraton in Auckland is The Churchill, a rooftop bar specialising in gin with a view.

The bar is known for its extensive collection of spirits, panoramic views of the Auckland CBD, and stylish surroundings. Of recent, however, The Churchill has added another string to its bow, by hosting comedy nights.

General manager of The Churchill, Scott O’Connor said that the idea behind the evening was to combine two experiences: a comedy show with a luxury bar experience.

“Paired with unparalleled views of the city, we create an intimate comedy setting in the sky, providing our guests with an elevated comedy experience that’s a departure from the usual comedy club setting we all know and love. It’s a chance to combine elegance with a beloved art form we enjoy regularly,” said O’Connor.

As a fan of comedy himself, O’Connor was inspired to combine the two after attending the New Zealand comedy festival in 2019. The idea was put on hold for two years during the Covid-19 pandemic, but through collaboration with Scott Blanks (owner of The Classic Comedy Club,) the idea came to life.

The first event in May proved to be a big success, with O’Connor saying guests and comedians had glowing compliments about the venue and experience. On Sunday (14th May) The Churchill had another sold-out show, followed by a third show that was recently launched for the 21st of May. O’Connor said that there are plans to make comedy evenings a regular occurrence.

“We intend to host several more events throughout the year featuring both local and international comedians. Our goal is to continually offer Auckland an incredible and unique experience.”
