Expedia has released its annual Flight Savings Report, providing the latest recommendations for travellers and accommodation providers. The report has aimed to make the flight search experience less stressful, with data such as when to book, how to avoid cancellations, and what is the best day to fly.
According to a survey carried out by Expedia, it was discovered that 71 percent of those surveyed consider that the experience of travelling by plane is more overwhelming when they have let time pass and have to make a reservation last minute. Likewise, 60 percent of air passengers commented that they were stressed about losing their luggage, and more than half (59 percent) were worried about delays or schedule changes.
Expedia's global director of brand public relations, Melanie Fish, said that it shouldn’t be that people prefer doing their taxes overbooking flights.
"In addition, flight cancellations are decreasing, and the help of technology with tools such as the Price Monitor in the Expedia application makes the entire reservation and flight process more agile," said Fish.
Fish added that significant work was underway for travellers to avoid being caught up in a last-minute panic.
Managing director of data science and research at Airlines Reporting Corporation, Chuck Thrackston, said that airlines are increasing capacity and improving service to meet the flight demand seen so far in 2023.
"Flights have shown resilience in recent years, with travellers taking flights more frequently for both business and pleasure," said Thrackston.
Data has revealed that flight status data so far in 2023 has indicated that flights after 3:00 p.m. are 16 percent more likely to be cancelled than services that depart in the morning.
