USA | The most expensive city for hotel accommodation in the United States has been revealed, surpassing giants like New York and Los Angeles.

The North Carolina capital of Raleigh is the fourth most expensive city in the United States for hotel accommodation, according to the latest survey by Cheap Hotels.

The annual survey compared hotel rates across 100 US destinations during October 2024 – the month when hotel prices in most American cities tend to be at their highest. Only centrally-located hotels with a three-star rating or more were considered.

In Raleigh, travellers will have to spend an average of USD $258 per night for the most affordable double room. Compared with 2023, rates in the city are up by over 25 percent.

Leading the overall rankings is Boston with an average rate of USD $320 per night, while second and third are New York City and Austin, with rates of USD $288 and USD $257, respectively.

Among the four other North Carolina destinations considered, Durham ranks tenth most expensive with an average of USD $226 per night. Greensboro (USD $178), Charlotte (USD $172), and Winston Salem (USD $142) came out in 37th, 42th and 66th positions, respectively.

However, the biggest jump is recorded in San Diego, where visitors will have to spend an average of 31 percent more than last year for the least expensive room. At the other end of the spectrum, hotel rates have dropped by 20 percent in San Francisco, where you can find a room for an average of just USD $105 per night.

The survey recorded hotel rates in all 69 cities in the US with populations of more than 300.000, as well as 31 select destinations with a population of more than 200.000. For each destination, the average price for the cheapest available double room was established for the period October 1-31 2024. Rates were recorded during late September using leading hotel booking websites.
