AUSTRALIA | Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel has announced a AUD 3 million renovation, which is set to sizzle in time for summer.
Located on the sandy shoreline of one of Sydney's most iconic harbour beaches, Watsons Bay Hotel has been an east Sydney stalwart for over 190 years and is the epitome of endless summers. The luxe bayside retreat boasts boutique contemporary accommodation, classic coastal interiors with a Hamptons-chic twist, slick waterfront dining and the renowned Beach Club with sprawling sundrenched terrace, where all the action happens. With blue harbour views by day, framing chilled afternoons clinking glasses over seafood platters by the waterfront, and the ultimate sunsets come dusk, where unforgettable parties raise the tempo under the stars - this is beach life, the Watsons' way.
And now Watsons has announced a AUD 3 million renovation to their top & mid deck, by design studio Etic Design, for Sydney’s most anticipated beachside event space transformation. Underway now, and launching in October 2025, the all-new top & mid deck is set to redefine waterfront events and social get-togethers in Sydney. Inspired by the timeless Hamptons style that defines the rest of the boutique hotel, the space will feature crisp whites, soft textures, and sweeping harbour views, the perfect canvas for unforgettable celebrations. Throughout the renovations, the legendary Beach Club, the upstairs Sunset Room, relaxed Front Bar, and stunning boutique accommodation remain open.
“Designing the Hamptons-style renovation for Watsons Bay Hotel was a collaborative and creative journey. Working closely with the owners, we really had a shared vision to elevate the hotel’s offering while honouring the iconic coastal charm that has made Watsons Bay so beloved,” said Emilie Delalande, Director of Etic Design.
“We want every design element to reflect a refined yet relaxed atmosphere, one that seamlessly blends timeless Hamptons elegance with the laid-back spirit of Sydney’s beachside living.”
Delalande drew inspiration from the soft, natural palette of the bay itself, sun-bleached timbers, crisp whites, layered textures, and subtle nautical touches.
“We are incorporating organic materials, custom detailing, and generous open spaces to celebrate light, air, and connection to the water. The result will be a space that feels fresh and elevated yet completely grounded in its surroundings. It is important to us that returning guests still feel at home, while also discovering thoughtful new layers of luxury and comfort.”
A go-to destination in summer, Watsons Bay Hotel is just as enticing in winter. Its chic yet cosy Sunset Room features crackling fireplaces and floor-to-ceiling windows that offer spectacular views of Sydney Harbour, making it the perfect spot to stay warm while soaking up the scenery. Winter specials include its newly launched seaside Sunday roast, a delicious traditional roast served with all the trimmings and lashings of gravy - available every Sunday from 12 pm until sold out for AUD 35. Other weeknight Winter Specials include fish pie on Monday, pizza and pinot on Tuesday and Burger and Beer on Wednesday.
With Bottomless Brunch every Saturday featuring a generous shared menu paired with a two hour beverage pack including Rameau d'Or Rosé, house wines, and beer for AUD 99 pp (or upgrade your experience with spritz cocktails for AUD 119 pp), and DJ’s and live music every Saturday and Sunday, Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel is perfect for locals, after-work catch-ups, drinks and nights out with friends or relaxed dinners by the water.
