As Crete continues to emerge as one of the Mediterranean's most compelling hospitality destinations, a new generation of hotel development is helping reshape the island's luxury landscape. At the centre of that evolution are sisters Danae and Konstantina Orfanaki, the creative force behind their family-owned hospitality group, Omicron Hotels.
Having grown up in the hotel business and on the island itself, the sisters play an active role in shaping every aspect of the guest experience across the group's portfolio, from architecture and interiors to wellness concepts, landscaping, and F&B programming. Their approach combines contemporary design, authentic Cretan culture, and a strong sense of place, attracting a growing audience seeking a more thoughtful alternative to Greece's traditional luxury destinations.
This summer marks a significant period of growth for the group, with the opening of Tierra Villas and major investments across its existing properties, including Acro Suites and MOMI Slow Living.
The newest addition to the Omicron portfolio, Tierra Villas, is a collection of five private villas in Agia Pelagia designed by architect Manos Kipritidis. The project reflects the growing demand for high-end, residential-style accommodations that emphasise privacy, wellness, and immersion in local culture. Each villa features minimalist architecture, private pools, and expansive outdoor living spaces overlooking the Mediterranean. Experiences include private chef-led dining, foraging excursions, and wellness programming ranging from sound healing to personalised treatments.
Following the successful repositioning of the property in 2024, MOMI Slow Living is undergoing a significant expansion with 30 new accommodations, including private pool rooms and suites, bringing total inventory to 100 keys. The development also includes a new pool bar and nail salon while maintaining the property's village-inspired atmosphere and focus on slow living. The expansion reflects growing demand for lifestyle-driven hospitality experiences in Crete.
Acro Suites, the group's flagship wellness resort and recipient of a MICHELIN Key, continues to evolve with several new additions. This season, the property debuted Calea, a new restaurant led by Michelin-starred Chef Gerardo Metta, alongside a transformed wellness treatment house that expands the resort's existing wellness offering with hydrotherapy, Pilates, and specialised treatment programs. The resort is also introducing new pickleball courts, reflecting the growing demand for active wellness experiences among luxury travellers.
