Diamond Harbour is a small town 45 minutes drive away from Christchurch.
A resource consent has been granted to the small Canterbury to build its first motel.
The consented building will be two-storeys and feature a verandah as well as French doors.
The resource consent was granted to locals Ann and Rodney White, whose motel will join the four other businesses operating in the township.
Accommodation offerings in the town currently include a handful of lodges and bed and breakfasts.
