DoubleTree by Hilton Melbourne is taking action to cut out its food wastage.

The hotel has partnered with the Degraves Street Recycling Facility to combat the amount of food waste that will end up in a landfill. The hotel reportedly has over 200kg of kitchen waste per week which is now sent to the recycling facility to be repurposed as new meals.

The initiative is in support of the Melbourne City Council’s ‘War on Waste’. The Council introduced a ‘Single-use Waste Reduction Fund’ at the same time, a programme which offers eligible business up to $2,000 to reduce the usage of plastic bags and other single-use plastics in the area.
