Singapore Changi Airport has been named the world’s best airport at the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2023.
Having been awarded the title 12 times in recent years, Changi Airport has once again highlighted excellence as the airport welcomes back the return of travel. Since 25 weekly services have operated between Singapore to Auckland and Christchurch, more than 406,000 passenger movements were made to and from New Zealand in 2022.
The first time Singapore Changi Airport was voted the world's best airport was back in 1999, and has also accumulated awards along the way for the world's best airport dining, the best airport for leisure amenities and the best airport in Asia.
Chief executive officer of Changi Airport Group (CAG,) Lee Seow Hiang said that the recognition was an honour and a great encouragement, and that it reflects the hard work put in by many during the pandemic.
“We thank them for their dedication to serving Changi’s passengers and the perseverance to
keep Singapore connected to the world. To our passengers, we are deeply grateful for your vote of confidence,” said Seow Hiang.
“Your continued support encourages us to keep pursuing service excellence as we expand our offerings to redefine the Changi Experience. We look forward to welcoming everyone to Changi Airport as we rediscover the magic of travel again.”
The Skytrax world airport awards are an indication of the views of airport customers. More than 60 nationalities respond to the awards annually, and are surveyed to assess facilities and customer service across more than 550 airports globally.
CEO of Skytrax, Edward Plaisted said that Changi Airport is clearly a favourable destination among travellers.
“Winning this award as the World’s Best Airport is a very clear recognition of the team effort amongst all staff at the airport who contributed to Changi Airport’s success.”
Since Covid-19 presented a halt to all international travelling for a considerable length of time, passenger traffic at Singapore Changi Aiport has been able to recover nearing 80 percent of pre-pandemic statistics. The Aiport is expected to reach 100 percent by the end of 2024. The top visiting nationalities into Singapore were Australia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand, with New Zealand ranking 17th on the list.
The Changi Airport Group (Singapore) was formed in 2009, and is considered one of the most connected aviation hubs in Asia. Changi Airport has links to over 140 cities globally, and has over 90 resident airlines operating more than 5,500 weekly flights.
