Leading manufacturer and designer of aquatic entertainment, WhiteWater, is working with Saudi Arabia to develop sustainable water parks as part of the Saudi Green Initiative and Vision 2030.

“WhiteWater has helped develop parks since the very start of the industry more than 40 years ago and it aims to help accomplish the Vision 2030 goal of establishing more than 600 entertainment attractions in the Kingdom by 2030,” said VP Business Development, Jeremy Gray.

WhiteWater plans to prioritise sustainability in every aspect of the project. “Starting with better feasibility planning while in the design process, having more consideration of the materials used, and during construction, we can better protect the planet and create the most environmentally responsible water parks in the world,” explained Gray.

Engineers use 3D modelling and proprietary software to determine, for example, how much water will be used on a water slide to remove the risk of over-specifying pumps and reduce water loss. “Well-designed water slides can help mitigate water loss and power consumption, resulting in more eco-friendly operations and cost savings. Most of the water used in water parks can be recaptured and recycled,” added Gray.

WhiteWater plan to use High-quality resin transfer moulding (RTM) fibreglass, which is recognised for its ability to reduce the evaporation of water, an especially important factor in warm climates. Selection of the right equipment and materials will result in only two to three percent of the current water consumption in comparison to similar sized water parks.

WhiteWater are thrilled to work with Saudi and prioritise their sustainability goals. “It’s been rewarding to work with our partners and identify tangible actions that the leisure and themed entertainment industry overall can take to prove to consumers we share their concerns and demonstrate how creating fun for them does not come at a cost to the earth,” said Chief Marketing and Strategy Officer, Una deBoer.

With Saudi Arabia embarking on multiple ambitious giga-projects, having sustainable practices integrated into their design, development, and operations is essential to ensure the preservation of the country's natural resources and create a healthy and prosperous future for the people of Saudi Arabia and all who visit.
