United Airlines has become the first U.S. Airline to support live activities for iPhone, allowing travellers real-time access to boarding passes, seat numbers, departure gates, and a clock function to keep track.
More than 800,000 United boarding passes and flight status functions are viewed daily by United customers. This new function will make receiving timely updates and accessing essential flight details easier and faster.
Chief Customer Officer for United, Linda Jojo, said this would significantly impact guest experience with the airline.
"We're seeing soaring demand for travel this summer, and Live Activities puts all the flight information you need right at your fingertips, whether your iPhone is locked or you're doing something else like checking email, listening to music or texting friends," said Jojo.
"This new feature is another way United is leveraging technology to improve our customers' travel journey. It will save passengers a lot of time, and they'll love it, especially during a busy travel season.
At a glance, iPhone owners travelling with United can see details such as flight numbers, aircraft status, departure times, and arrivals. They will also have their boarding pass available for scanning during check-in and baggage carousel information.
The United mobile app has three million users daily, allowing personalization options and improved navigation. Functions on the app include 'Agent on Demand,' a virtual customer service tool, 'United Map Search,' allowing customers to shop around for flight affordability, ' Travel Ready Centre,' a digital assistant for any necessary travel requirements; and 'Terminal Code,' point-to-point in-terminal instructions.
