ITALY | Wellness opportunities have been emphasised at Conrad Chia Laguna Sardinia, where guests can indulge in the resort's latest features.
The 2025 Hilton Trends Report found that many travellers want to feel pampered when on vacation. At Conrad Chia Laguna Sardinia in Sardinia, Italy, spa guests can indulge in a uniquely local wellness opportunity — spa services inspired by Sardinia’s blue zone living.
Sardinia native Giulia Piras has worked in spas for years, travelling the world in a career that has taken her to the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, and Tuscany, Italy—but eventually she returned to the place she felt most at home: Sardinia, Italy.
Three areas of Sardinia— Ogliastra, Barbagia di Ollolai, and Barbagia of Seulo—have been designated as Blue Zones, or areas of the world where locals live the longest due to a mix of specific diet and lifestyle factors. The healthy elements of Blue Zone living inspired Piras, who now serves as a spa manager at Conrad Chia Laguna Sardinia, to develop three exclusive treatments for the spa.
“In these treatments, we use local products such as myrtle essential oil, juniper, lavender, and honey cream, all of which are native to Sardinia,” Piras said.
“I developed three experiences: I called them experiences because they transcend the conventional massage or ritual. They also include activities outside the Conrad Spa.”
For example, the On the Salt Route is an experience limited to four guests at a time, in which they travel a few kilometers to the nearby Conti-Vecchi salt marshes, and board a train for a tour of the protected archaeological white salt marches and haven for hundreds of pink flamingos. Guests return to the spa for an 80-minute exfoliation service that incorporates salt from the marshes and Sardinian aromatic plants.
The On the Honey Route incorporates Sardinia’s history of honey production by allowing guests to taste different notes of honey and learn about the history of the territory in which it was produced. The service includes a soothing body mask and massage, plus herbal tea with Sardinian honey and ginger.
And the On the Wood Route honours Sardinia’s centuries-old forests and the connection with nature in this experience, which combines nature sounds, the scent of Mediterranean essential oils, and a massage that includes citrus wood cream created exclusively for this service.
