The Asia Pacific’s construction pipeline as of April 2019 shows a large rise in projects in development. Compared to 2018 there has been a 23.3 percent increase of rooms in the final phase of development, totalling 423,343 rooms, according to STR.

The majority of the region’s rooms in construction are organised into three segments; upscale (109,689 rooms), upper midscale (99,013 rooms), and upper upscale (955,915 rooms).
Of the over 400,000 rooms nearing completion, five countries reported having more than 20,000 rooms currently under construction.

China was far and away the leader of the pack with 225,170 rooms in the pipeline, making up 8.8 percent of the country’s existing supply. Japan was a distant second with 39,864 rooms.
